Our color-coded floor plan may also help you find your way around the Main Library.

A place for every purpose.

In an effort to provide comfortable spaces for a variety of library activities, the Main Library has three types of noise level zones: Conversation, Quiet, and Silent.

In our Conversation Zones, quiet conversation with others—in person or via phone—are allowed. We do ask that you refrain from loud talking even in these areas, as a courtesy to other patrons. The following areas are Conversation Zones:

  • Ground Floor Children's Room and Atrium
  • First Floor main seating area, fiction room and audio/visual area
  • Second Floor public computers near the elevator

In the Quiet Zone, please keep any conversations brief and at a whispered level. Most of the Second Floor is a Quiet Zone.

In the Silent Zone, no conversation is allowed. The Richardson building is a Silent Zone.

In all Zones, please use ear phones for any audio, and keep the volume low enough so it cannot be heard by other patrons.

Lidded drinks are allowed throughout the Main Library, but please restrict consumption of all food and snacks to the Ground Floor Atrium.
