LIBRARY CARDS

To receive your free library card, come to the Main Library or any Quincy branch library with identification showing your name, photograph, and current street address.

You may also register online for a free library eCard. With your eCard you may place holds on library materials, use our downloadable digital audiobook service, and search for magazine and newspaper articles in some reference databases. Once you have your eCard number, please be sure to visit us to present valid identification and have your eCard upgraded to a permanent library card. A permanent library card is required to borrow library materials.

Quincy Residents

Adults and young adults in 8th grade or above will be issued an Old Colony Library Network (OCLN) library card upon presentation of proper identification.

For photographic identification, you may use any of the following:

  • Driver's license
  • Massachusetts ID (issued by Registry of Motor Vehicles)
  • Passport
  • Resident alien card (green card)
  • Military ID
  • Student ID
For address identification, you may use any of the following:
  • Any of the above photo IDs which also show current address
  • Checkbook with current address
  • Gas, oil, telephone or electric bill with your address
  • Lease agreement or house sale documents
  • Postcard mailed to you by the library
  • Piece of hand-addressed personal mail
  • School schedule with your address

Children in 7th grade or below must have the signature of a parent or legal guardian and must be able to either sign/print their own first and last name or be enrolled in kindergarten.

Application for a permanent library card must be made in person at the library.

Residents of Other OCLN Towns

Residents of OCLN towns may apply for library cards at any OCLN library. To see a list of member libraries with addresses and contact information, go to the Old Colony Library Network Member Directory. When applying for a card in Quincy, proper identification is required (see above).

Residents of Non-OCLN Towns

Massachusetts residents of non-OCLN towns are eligible for an Old Colony Library Network library card upon presentation of proper identification (see requirements for Quincy residents, above). Application must be made in person at the library.
