Finding Enough Copies for Your Group
Don't want to buy every book your book group reads? The library is happy to help you obtain multiple copies of a title for your book group. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when choosing a book for your group:

  • When selecting a book, check the library's catalog to make sure there are plenty of available copies in the Old Colony Library Network.
  • Avoid choosing a new book, a book on a bestseller list, or a book that's currently very popular. There will likely be a long list of reserves for such a title and you may not be able to obtain copies for all your members in time.
  • Each book group member may place a hold on their own copy of the book by using the library's catalog. Visit Catalog Help for information about searching and placing holds on materials. Or, ask a library staff member to help you in the library or by phone at 617-376-1316.
  • Book discussion groups may borrow book sets from the Boston Public Library. To request a book set, call the Thomas Crane Library at 617-376-1316. Allow enough time for your request to be processed and the books to be sent from Boston.
