It is easy to particpate! Sign up on our 1000 Books website starting Monday, November 2nd and begin reading! For every 100 books you and your child read together we will give your child a star to add to our Super Star Readers wall and a sticker telling everyone how many books you have read. Keep reading until you reach 1000 books! When you reach 1000 books, we’ll give your child a certificate of achievement and take his or her picture for our Super Star Readers Hall of Fame.

Take the challenge and see if your family can read 1000 books before your child reaches Kindergarten! Board books, books read in storytime, books read with any adult or older child, repeat readings of the same book, ebooks, audiobooks! They all count towards your goal. Ready to try and reach 1000 books? Sign up here or come into any Thomas Crane Public Library location, then track your reading online and become a Super Star Reader!

Why read 1000 books before Kindergarten?

  • Reading builds vocabulary. The more words children encounter the more words they recognize!
  • Reading exposes children to new situations and experiences.
  • Reading aloud provides your child with a reading role model.
  • Reading provides you with a quiet moment with your child.

1000 books isn't a magic number, but it makes for an impressive and very achievable goal! Every book read to your child counts - storytime, preschool, at home with you, a grandparent, a sibling or a babysitter.
