Summer Reading

Visit the library to read from A to Z this summer.

Dan Myers' sculpture, "Open the Window of the Imagination - Read" shows the titles of many famous children's books that are favorites of Mr. Myers and the librarians at the Thomas Crane Public Library. We found it very hard to choose because there are so many great book. This summer we challenge you to explore the whole library as you create your own list of great authors from A to Z. Each person who completes the challenge will receive a certificate and a medal. In September the medals will be awarded in a special ceremony. Grab a copy of the A-Z Challenge.

A to Z Challenge rules:

The challenge is open to everyone.
Adults or siblings may read aloud to children too young to read on their own.
Families may choose to work on one challenge as a group (each member will get a medal).
Pick up a challenge sheet beginning June 1st.
You have until August 31st to complete and turn in the challenge.
For each letter of the alphabet read a book by an author whose last name starts with that letter.
X is tricky, so in our alphabet X stands for eXtra book by your favorite author.
Record the author's name and the title of the book on the lines provided.
You may read any kind of books you like: fiction, nonfiction, graphic novels, picture books, etc.
Most importantly, have fun exploring all the new authors you will meet!

The Quincy Public Schools are using new recommended reading lists this year for grades K through 5. Some schools may assign specific titles so please check with your own school for possible school-specific requirements. For Central Middle School, please check here.
