Does the library have computers available for public use?
Every Quincy library location has computers that you can access with your library card.

Each PC runs the following software applications:
Computer User
  • Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, and PowerPoint
All of our computers have the ability to:
  • play movies, audio and streaming media (you will need to bring headphones or purchase earbuds at the library)
  • view and edit digital images
  • save data to a CD or USB/flash drive
  • print single-sided, black & white documents on provided paper for 15¢ per page

Adaptive Technology Room
Two computers at the Main Library have text magnification software and Kurzweil 1000 software that converts the printed word into speech for users who need assistive technology. To reserve the adaptive technology room call 617-376-1316 or ask at the Main Library Reference Desk. Reservations can be made up to a month in advance.

How do I sign up to use a library computer?
At the Main Library, adult and young adult users in 8th grade or above must register in the Computer Lab with an OCLN library card; children in the 7th grade and below must register in the Children’s Room. At the branches, both adults and children can register at the public service desk.

Adults and children at the Main Library have 1 hour of computer access per day. All branch library users have 30 minutes of computer access per day. Additional time may be available upon request.

Does the library have WiFi?
Free wireless Internet service is available for laptop computers and other mobile devices in most areas of the Main Library, including the Richardson building, and at all three branches. See our Wireless Internet Users' Guide for more information about the Library's wireless service.

Wired Internet connections for laptop computers are available at the Main Library. Connections are located in the study carrels on the first floor and in the study carrels and tables on the second floor.
