Adaptive Technology Room
Two computers at the Main Library have text magnification software and Kurzweil 1000 software that converts the printed word into speech for users who need assistive technology. To reserve the adaptive technology room call 617-376-1316 or ask at the Main Library Reference Desk. Reservations can be made up to a month in advance.
How do I sign up to use a library computer?
At the Main Library, adult and young adult users in 8th grade or above must register with an OCLN library card; children in the 7th grade and below must register in the Children’s Room. At the branches, both adults and children can register at the public service desk.
Adults at the Main Library have 2 hours of computer access per day, children have 1. All branch library users have 30 minutes of computer access per day. Additional time may be available upon request. No additional time is granted to Adults in the Main Library.
Does the library have WiFi?
Free wireless Internet service is available for laptop computers and other mobile devices in most areas of the Main Library, including the Richardson building, and at all three branches. See our Wireless Internet Users' Guide for more information about the Library's wireless service.
Wired Internet connections for laptop computers are available at the Main Library. Connections are located in the study carrels on the first floor and in the study carrels and tables on the second floor.
