101 Adams Street (Eye Services Building)
HISTORICAL SIGNIFICANCE
The new Eye Health Services building at 101 Adams Street is built on the site of the John J. Carr house, built 1832-1835. The original Carr property was comprised of both 101 and 105 Adams Street and Carr's widow, Charlotte, was still living there in 1876. Although the house was re-cycled into a commercial property in the late 1950's, it was demolished in 1978.

ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE:
This two story 1980s stucco building was built in a simple commercial International Style, as characterized by the emphasis on horizontality, smooth wall surfaces punctuated by triple windows, and the complete lack of ornaraentation. Further details of the style include the flat roof, windows with minimal exterior reveals and the vertical elliptical curve of the entrance. It is a good example of its type, but very much in contrast to its historic neighbor, the Vassell-Adams 135 Adams Street which is visible from its windows. It is part of the Quincy Center Local Historic District.
