Quincy, Mass. Historical and Architectural Survey
37-39 Quincy Avenue
ARCHITECTURAL SIGNIFICANCE:
South Quincy has five Cape Cod cottages listed in the inventory. One dates back to the 18th century, the Noah Curtis House at 315 Franklin Street and the others were built in the early 19th century. This residence built in the 1850s (Quincy Historical Society Records) is the latest of the group. The original section still retains the typical Cape Cod configuration of a large enveloping ridge roof and a symmetrical facade. Changes have altered the original building; they include the addition of a large bay window in the front, the two dormers, the large addition on the left and the siding of the house with vinyl which has obliterated the window enframements and possibly a cornice board under the eaves. The house rests on a granite foundation, has granite steps and a granite retaining wall fronting it. It is a fine component of the Quincy Avenue streetscape.
