The Thomas Crane Public Library’s Library of Things is a circulating collection of non-traditional materials that provide the opportunity to learn and grow by doing, seeing, and making. You can borrow ukuleles, a stand mixer, a power washer, and many more amazing non-traditional items with your library card! Take our Things home to try before you buy, start projects you’ve been meaning to tackle, discover a new hobby or even host your own karaoke party. The aim is to foster the circular economy and reduce excessive consumption and accumulation of objects we don’t use. It is based on the “lend instead of buy” principle and not only helps to reduce environmental impact, but also promotes community belonging and mutual learning.

Anyone with an Old Colony Library Network card in good standing can borrow from our Library of Things, however only Quincy residents are able to place holds on the items. Certain items, such as tools, will be restricted to adult cardholders ages 18 and up. Things will have a typical borrowing period of two weeks, however certain items can be borrowed for longer (special borrowing periods will be noted on the item). Things will only be available for pickup and return on the Circulation floor of the Main Library on 40 Washington St. Things must be returned in the same condition as it was received and packed back into their respective containers. Upon checkout, a Library of Things borrowing agreement must be signed. We look forward to your continued support and wish you the best of luck on your new hobbies, projects, and adventures with our Things!
