Free Library Cards

Free library cards are available to any Quincy resident with proper identification.

To receive your library card, visit the library with identification showing your photograph and current street address. The registration process takes less than five minutes, and the information you provide will be kept private.

Children in the 7th grade or below need the signature of their legal guardian to receive a library card. The legal guardian must present his or her identification with a photograph and current street address.

Proper Identification

For photographic identification, you may use any one of the following:
  • Driver’s license
  • Massachusetts ID (issued by the Registry of Motor Vehicles)
  • Passport
  • Military ID
  • Student ID
For address verification, you may use any one of the following:
  • Driver’s license
  • Massachusetts ID
  • Checkbook with printed current street address
  • Gas, phone, or electric bill with your street address
  • Lease agreement or house sale documents
  • Piece of hand-addressed personal mail or junk mail

Online Library Card Registration

Register for a library card online, and then visit the library later with identification to complete your registration and get a physical library card. When you register for an eCard, you will be asked to enter contact information that will make sure you do not already have a library card.

With your eCard you may:

  • place holds on library materials
  • search for magazine and newspaper articles in our online databases
