Foreign Film Series
This summer's free film series concludes with films from India and Slovenia. Please note that the film scheduled for the August 17 screening has changed, due to a delayed release date for the previously scheduled film, Who's Camus Anyway. Films for the series are obtained through the library's membership in Film Movement, the exclusive distributor of curator-selected films from the world's top film festivals, including Cannes and Sundance.

Remaining screenings are scheduled for two Thursdays in August at 7:00 p.m. in the library's community meeting room. Although the films are not subject to rating by the Motion Picture Association of America, they are not recommended for ages under 17 without parental permission.

At first shocked into disbelief, Amudha then expresses her determination to seek out for her biological mother. The search takes the family to strife-torn Sri Lanka, where Amudha comes face-to-face with reality, and reconciles herself to it. "Charming and consistently entertaining...the performers are expressive, and the cinematography is absolutely gorgeous."--San Francisco Chronicle

Directed by Damjan Kozole, Slovenia
Official Selection, Cannes Film Festival
Nominated, Golden Bear Award (Berlin International Film Festival)
Nominated, Golden Dolphin Award ( Festroia-Troia Int'l Film Festival)
In a story straight from the headlines, hard-drinking, chain-smoking Ludvik spends his nights smuggling illegal refugees in his van from Croatia, across Slovenia, and into Italy. The young and inexperienced Rudi is his new assistant. Director Kozole refuses to paint the world in black and white, as Ludvik and Rudi cope with life in a rundown town, home to the only nuclear power plant in the former Yugoslavia. "...one of the most powerful and provocative movies of the year...a remarkable film."--The Guardian

Reynard PhotoQuincy resident Suzanne Neville Reynard presents Faces of the Forest, an exhibit of nature photography, from August 1-31 at the Main Library. A public reception will be held on Sunday, August 6 from 2:00-4:00 p.m.

Ms. Reynard's elemental images of rocks, trees, logs, plants and water reveal the faces of people, animals and mythical creatures. The photographs were taken during walks through various local parks and all of the images are un-manipulated.

Growing up next to the forest and marshlands of the Weir River, Ms. Reynard discovered sculpted friends looking back at her from the rocks and trees. With formal study (a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography degree from Mass. College of Art), she learned to capture her imagination through the lens of the camera. Ms. Reynard invites you to follow in her footsteps and discover the unique faces of nature.
