New Monthly DVD List
If it seems like there are never any new movies on the library shelf, it's because these items are in such demand that as soon as they are returned they are quickly checked out again. Now you can find out what's new by browsing our new DVD titles online. Quickly check shelf availability and put your name on the waiting list for popular titles.

The list will include feature films as well as popular non-fiction titles such as documentaries that have been added to the Main Library collection within the last month. Titles may include both new movies and classic titles that have been reissued on DVD.

Main Library Tours
Are there sections of the library that you've never explored? Or maybe you just feel a bit lost when you pay a visit? Take a guided walk through an architectural jewel in the heart of Quincy--and find out what's there for you--at a free orientation tour of the Main Library at 40 Washington St. Beginning January 6, orientations will be provided on the first Saturday of each month from 10:00-10:45 a.m.

Discover the quiet beauty of Quincy's original library building, a masterpiece designed by renowned architect H.H. Richardson in 1882 and recently restored to its original glory, now the home of 180 current magazine titles from Antiques to Yoga Journal. Take a close look at the carved brownstone bas relief sculpture on the exterior of the 1939 Coletti reading room--and check out the monthly art exhibit inside. Then explore the newest addition, a distinctive contemporary interpretation of Richardson's Romanesque style constructed in 2001, where you will find everything from audiobooks to Internet computers to zoo passes! All ages are welcome to join the orientation tours. Interpretation in Cantonese and Mandarin will be provided.

Upcoming orientations are scheduled for February 3, March 3, April 7 and May 5.

Film Feature: Something Like Happiness
You are invited to a screening of the recently released film Something Like Happiness [in Czech with English subtitles] on Thursday, January 18 at 7:00 p.m.

Tonik and Dasha grew up together in the same housing project on the outskirts of a small industrial city. Now the childhood friends are adults, each struggling with feelings of desire and loneliness, longing and failure. By turns poignant, absurd and profoundly moving, beautifully directed and featuring a host of flawless performances, Something Like Happiness is the second feature from award-winning Bohdan Slama.

"Beautiful little movie. See it if you can."--Ty Burr, The Boston Globe

Although this film is not subject to rating by the Motion Picture Association of America, it is not recommended for ages under 17 without parental permission. Films for the series are obtained through the library's membership in Film Movement, the exclusive distributor of curator-selected films from the world's top film festivals, including Cannes and Sundance.
