Quincy Animal Shelter
The Shelter is always looking for volunteers to walk dogs, train and socialize dogs, feed and play with cats, clean the kennels and cat rooms, provide temporary foster care for recovering or special needs animals, provide office assistance, and more.

SCORE
The SCORE Association is a national nonprofit organization with a public service mission. SCORE volunteers provide small business counseling and training to maximize the success of existing and emerging small businesses. The Boston SCORE chapter is the biggest and busiest in New England and seeks volunteers with a successful business background who are available to volunteer 4-6 days per month.

South Shore Elder Services
Help deliver meals, visit residents in nursing homes, assist elders to manage their finances, or visit isolated elders to provide companionship and emotional support.

SWAP
The Quincy Council on Aging offers a Senior Workers' Abatement Program (SWAP) that enables older residents who are age 65+ and own their own home or condo to work 89 hours per year and earn $700 toward their real estate tax bills. For details, call Dorothy Dow at 617-376-1249.

Idealist is a project of Action Without Borders, a nonprofit organization founded in 1995 with offices in the United States and Argentina. Idealist is an interactive site where people and organizations can exchange resources and ideas, locate opportunities and supporters, and take steps toward building a world where all people can lead free and dignified lives.

This is a database of volunteer opportunities searchable by zip code, interest, etc. You can check "Senior Welcome" to limit your search to those opportunities where seniors are needed.

Senior Corps
Senior Corps offers a variety of volunteer programs, including the Foster Grandparents program, Senior Companions program, and RSVP.

This site from the Federal Interagency Team on Volunteerism allows you to search for volunteer opportunities by keyword, state, activity, partner, and/or date range. Includes many volunteer opportunities with the National Park Service (NPS).

This site allows you to search for traditional volunteer activities by zip code. More importantly it points out virtual volunteering opportunities--things you can do from home when you can’t appear in person.
