Let's Talk, Tutor Potluck, Wednesday, May 1st
from 5:30 to 8:00 pm
- Tutors (new and seasoned) are invited to share experiences, teaching tips and innovative material as well as ask questions, discuss obstacles, brainstorm solutions and share the joys of tutoring. Meets in the Main Library Meeting Room.
- Please bring your favorite dish to share with the group.

Computer Class for LVM Students or Tutors in May (to be announced)
- If you are a student or a tutor that has never been on a computer or can only do a little bit and you don’t feel comfortable working alone on it, then this is the right class for you. This 6-week class will cover practicing your typing skills, searching the internet, sending and receiving emails and downloading and sending attachments. Each class will be about practicing the skills learned in the prior class and learning just a little bit more each time. The class meets from 6:00 to 7:30 pm in the computer lab on the second floor. Tutors are encouraged to attend with their students.
Students must call the Literacy Office at (617)376-1314 to register for the class.
Tutor Workshop - "Reading Disabilitites", Fri., March 15th from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm
- This module covers the considerations and strategies for working with adults with learning disabilities who struggle with reading. Topics include identifying skills needed to be a successful reader, identifying characteristics of reading disabilitites and discussing the four common types of reading disabilities (phonological processing, word analysis, naming speed and verbal memory). This module also investigates assessment practices and instructional strategies that can develop reading skills.

Electronic Speller Workshop for Students & Tutors, Thursday, April 11th from
11:30 to 1:00 or 6: to 7:30 pm
The Literacy program is offering a no stress, harly-painful-at-all workshop with a bonus gift of a Franklin speaking dictionary for the student. Students and tutors are encouraged to attend together. At this session you will learn how to use the speller and participate in hands-on activities so you can leave feeling confident. Only 8 available openings per session.

Literacy (LVM) Recognition Ceremony for Students and Tutors, Thursday, May 30th from 6:00 to 8:30 pm
This is a special time of year when we come together to celebrate the hard work and dedication of our amazing students & tutors. Students will be recognized for their achievements and tutors for their commitment and dedication to their student and the program. Family and friends are welcome.
