How do I reserve a meeting room?

The library has a variety of rooms available for public use during regular library hours, including a large meeting room at the Main Library (capacity: 125, minimum: 20), and a smaller meeting room at the Adams Shore Branch (capacity: 75; minimum: 10).

Meeting Room Use Policy At-a-Glance

  • Meeting room use is available only for non-commercial organizations engaged in educational, cultural, civic, intellectual or charitable activities.
  • All meetings and events must be open to the public and free.
  • The Main Library community meeting room is available for reservation on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during regular library hours only; the Adams Shore meeting room is available during branch library hours only.
  • Reservations must be made at least one week ahead and no more than three months ahead of the requested date.
  • Use of the Main Library meeting room is limited to four times per calendar year per organization; use of the Adams Shore meeting room is limited to 12 times per calendar year per organization.
  • Applicants are responsible for setup, breakdown, and cleaning of meeting rooms after use.
  • Except as noted in the policy (see link above to read full policy), groups must provide their own audio/visual equipment and cables.

There are five small study rooms at the Main Library with room capacities ranging from one to 12. Three of these rooms may be booked up to four weeks in advance, and all rooms may be used by walk-ins if not previously reserved. To reserve a Main Library study room, call 617-376-1316.

The North Quincy Branch has two small study rooms with room capacities of one to eight. Rooms are available on a first-come, first-served basis and may not be reserved in advance.

Study Room Use Policy At-A-Glance

  • Study rooms are available only to non-profit community groups and individuals for small group work or other tasks, which may not be easily accomplished in other areas of the library.
  • Rooms are available from opening until 15 minutes before closing time.
  • Study rooms in the Main Library Richardson Building are reserved for use by the library's Literacy Program and may not be reserved in advance by other users. Walk-in users may use the rooms if they are not reserved for the Literacy Program, but must vacate if a Literacy Program tutor requests a room.
  • Priority for use of the Main Library Lions Room will be given to users who need adaptive technology, including people with disabilities and the library's Literacy Program tutors.
  • The two large Main Library study rooms are available only for group use (two or more people).
  • Reservations for Main Library rooms may be made up to four weeks in advance. Individuals/groups may reserve one room up to two times in a week. Rooms may be reserved for up to two hours in a day.
  • Reserved rooms will not be held more than 15 minutes past the time reserved and may be assigned to the next applicant after that time.
  • Study room users must check in at a public service desk upon arrival for access to a study room and will be required to provide positive identification.
  • Study rooms shall not be used for entrepreneurial or commercial purposes, for the solicitation or development of business, for profit or for fundraising, for religious services or proselytizing, for individual political campaigns or partisan political recruitment, or for gambling or games of chance.
  • No food or unlidded drinks are allowed in the study rooms. Study rooms must be left clean and in the same condition as found.
  • Children must be supervised at all times by a responsible adult or child aged 14 or older.
  • Study room activities must not interfere with or disturb library staff or users. Music and other noise must be kept to a level acceptable to the library.
