- make a one-year commitment to the program, give two hours of tutoring and an hour of preparation time per week
- meet your student at a public location at a convenient time that works for the both of you
- attend one in-service program and one tutor meeting per year
- report tutoring hours to the literacy office on a monthly basis
- communicate with literacy staff on an ongoing basis for advice, to get new materials, to practice writing lesson plans or to share your student's achievements and goals
- submit a student story in April (written by the student) for the student journal that is published once a year
- if possible, attend the "Recognition Ceremony" when students and tutors all come together to celebrate their hard work
- share your knowledge and experiences with other tutors
