Cash & Non-Cash Gifts

The Thomas Crane Public Library Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) charitable organization established to support and strengthen library programs, services, and collections. All contributions to the Foundation are tax deductible.

The Trustees of the Thomas Crane Public Library also accept donations, subject to the Library’s Gifts & Donations Policy.

Books & Materials

We are now accepting donations of books or other materials. However, please limit donations to no more than two bags or boxes of gently used items per person.

  • What items will be accepted?
We welcome donations of new or gently used books, CDs, and DVDs. We cannot accept textbooks, cassette tapes, videotapes, LP records, magazines (including National Geographic), Reader’s Digest condensed books, broken or damaged items, items that are missing parts, non-book or media items (e.g. toys, calendars, cards, etc.), and personally recorded audio or video items.
  • How much can be donated at one time?
Because of space limitations, we cannot accept more than two boxes or bags at one time when donations resume in the fall of 2021.
  • What happens to donated materials?
Librarians evaluate all materials to see if the materials can be added to the collection. Materials not added to the collection may be sold at The Crane Library Bookstore run by the Friends of the Library. The library disposes of any unacceptable materials.
  • Where can I donate materials?
We accept donations at any library location during open hours.
  • Will I receive a receipt for my donations?
If you include your name and address with your donation, we will send you a receipt. We are unable to appraise donated materials.
