QUINCY — The staff of the Thomas Crane Public Library are pleased to announce the grand opening of “The Cranium,” a new collaborative and interactive makerspace for patrons of all ages.
A grand opening reception will be held on Thursday, May 23 from 3-4 p.m., inside the Main Library, located at 40 Washington St. Members of the public are invited to stop by for the official ribbon-cutting, take a look at some of the new maker tools, and learn about upcoming programs for June.
The library will also host Open Houses, where people can stop by The Cranium and learn more about its offerings, on Friday, May 24 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m.; Thursday, May 30, from 6:30-8:30 p.m.; and Tuesday, June 4 from 2-4 p.m.
The space will officially open to the public in July.
A makerspace is a collaborative work space for making, learning, exploring and sharing where people can gather to get creative with DIY projects. “The Cranium” makerspace will be open to kids, teens and adults interested in learning how to use a variety of maker equipment, such as a Glowforge Laser Cutter, Toybox 3D printers, Robo E3 3D printers, Vaquform machines, Cricut machines, sewing machines, metal stamping tools, button makers, sublimation printers, craft supplies and more.
Some makerspace items, such as Toybox 3D printers, will also be available for check-out with your library card through the Library of Things.
The Crane Library’s goal is to provide a space for patrons to cultivate their knowledge and skills in crafting and technology while building community.
This event is generously sponsored by the Friends of the Thomas Crane Public Library.
