Banned Books Week 2024

☢️🚫🛑BANNED BOOKS WEEK 2024 ❌ SEPT 22 – SEPT 28 🛑🚫☢️

Banned Books Week was launched in 1982 in response to a sudden surge in the number of challenges to books in libraries, bookstores, and schools. The theme for Banned Books Week 2024 (September 22-28) is “Freed Between the Lines.” We can find freedom in the pages of a book — but book bans and censorship threaten that freedom, along with many other rights and institutions. During Banned Books Week 2024 and beyond, let’s share our love of right to read and the freedom found in books. Let’s be Freed Between the Lines! Check out our displays throughout the Library and join us for celebration and crafts this week!

BANNED BOOKS READ-IN:
Drop In anytime between 3 – 5 PM on Tuesday, Sept. 24 for our 2nd annual Banned Book Week Read-In! We invite everyone to gather at the library and indulge in the joy of unrestricted reading. Bring your favorite book & a chair or blanket to read on the Olmsted Lawn, explore new literary worlds, and revel in the freedom to read whatever you choose. This is an ALL AGES program so all are welcome! We will have books, crafts, take home activities, and more!
*** Children of all ages are welcome to join for a read aloud storytime with Ms. Amanda @ 3:15 PM!

BANNED BOOKS CRAFT @ WOLLASTON LIBRARY:
Drop In anytime between 10 AM – 4 PM on Thursday, Sept. 26 at the Wollaston Library to recycle some worn-out books with various ALL AGES crafts and activities like black out poetry and paper making. Check out our Banned Books Week display and know that none of the recycled books we will be working with were removed from the shelf for any reason other than that they were literally falling apart!
