The City of Quincy proudly marks 400 years of rich history, community, and culture since its settlement in 1625. Known as the birthplace of two U.S. Presidents, John Adams and John Quincy Adams, Quincy has been at the forefront of shaping American democracy and innovation. This milestone is an opportunity to honor our past, celebrate our present, and envision a bright future together.
Continue the festivities with us at the Thomas Crane Public Library on Wednesday, October 29 from 6 – 7:30 PM for a local history talk featuring Quincy eateries and dishes! From Abigail Adams’ eel stew and Joseph Lee’s famous fried fish to Howard Johnson’s 28 flavors of ice cream and Quincy’s legendary status as the center of the donut hole, join Quincy Historical Society’s Executive Director Alexandra Elliott and Quincy Public Historian Bob Damon for a delicious jaunt through Quincy’s culinary history.
Attendees are invited to bring a favorite culinary memory from Quincy (max 60 words please) and Alexandra and Bob will share some of them out at the end of the program.
Bob Damon, City of Quincy’s Director of Historic and Heritage Resources is responsible for preserving and activating City-owned historic buildings and sites, and for supporting and promoting the City’s diverse historic heritage sector on behalf of community members, local educators and tourists alike. He is a public historian, historical consultant, and educator with over 25 years of experience in historic site management, historical programming, historic preservation, non-profit management and public education.
Alexandra Elliott, Quincy Historical Society’s Executive Director, believes that a thorough understanding of the past can help us better navigate the present. She is a public historian and museum professional with over a decade of experience.
