QUINCY — The staff of the Thomas Crane Public Library are proud to share the weekly and monthly movies that will be shown at the library throughout the month of May. 

Special Movie Nights are as follows: 

AAPI Month Movie Night: Past Lives

WHEN: Thursday, May 16 from 2-4 p.m. 

WHERE: Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

WHAT: Celebrate AAPI month with a screening of Past Lives. In this film, Nora and Hae Sung, two deeply connected childhood friends, get separated after her family emigrates from South Korea. Two decades later, they reunite in New York City for one fateful week as they confront notions of destiny, love and life choices. Rated PG-13.

Documentary: Inundation District

WHEN: Thursday, May 23 from 7-8:30 p.m. 

WHERE: Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

WHAT: Join the staff of the Thomas Crane Public Library for a special screening of Inundation District, produced by the Boston Globe and directed by Pulitzer Prize-winning director David Abel. The film explores Boston’s decision to create a new district along the shoreline despite concerns about rising sea levels and climate change. Learn more about the film here.

Weekly Movie Matinees are as follows: 

Matinee Movie: Next Goal Wins

WHEN: Wednesday, May 1 from 2-4 p.m. 

WHERE: Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

WHAT: Based on the 2014 documentary with the same title, this sports comedy-drama features the real-life travails of Thomas Rongen. The Dutch-American football coach was forced to undertake a coaching role he had difficulty accepting. He flew to American Samoa to coach their national football team to become eligible for the 2001 FIFA World Cup. The main challenge, though, is that the team is touted as one of the weakest in the world. Rated PG-13.

Matinee Movie: Picture Bride

WHEN: Wednesday, May 8 from 2-4 p.m. 

WHERE: Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

WHAT: This film tells the story of a Japanese woman who agrees to an arranged marriage in turn-of-the-century Hawaii, but finds that it’s not the paradise she thought it would be. Rated PG-13.

Matinee Movie: Lion

WHEN: Wednesday, May 15 from 2-4 p.m.

WHERE: Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

WHAT: A 5-year-old Indian boy is adopted by an Australian couple after he gets lost in Calcutta. Years later, he struggles with his memories of his birth family and decides to begin a search for them. Rated PG-13.

Matinee Movie: Yellow Rose

WHEN: Wednesday, May 22 from 2-4 p.m. 

WHERE: Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

WHAT: In rural Texas, a Filipino teen longs to make her mark on the world of country music. When an unexpected opportunity comes her way, she must make a choice between upholding her family’s traditions or leaving them all behind to pursue her lifelong aspiration. Rated PG-13.

WHEN: Tuesday, May 28 from 7-8 p.m. 

WHERE: Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

WHAT: Calling all film fanatics! Join the Thomas Crane Public Library to discuss any of these films we’ve screened at the Library for AAPI Heritage Month, whether you’ve watched them from home or at the Library. Or share your favorites!

Monthly Movies are as follows: 

Audio Described Movie: Big Hero 6

WHEN: Friday, May 3 from 2-4 p.m. 

WHERE: Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

WHAT: A young tech whiz named Hiro must save his city from a nefarious villain with the help of his inflatable robot Baymax, as well as his friends Go Go Tomago, Wasabi, Honey Lemon and Fred. Rated PG.

The Thomas Crane Public Library hosts audio-described movies on the first Friday of each month. Audio description (also referred to as “description” or “video description”) is defined as “the verbal depiction of key visual elements in media and live productions.” Audio description is a means to inform individuals who are blind or who have low vision about visual content essential for comprehension.

Foreign Film Friday: Parasite

WHEN: Friday, May 17 from 2-4 p.m.

WHERE: Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

WHAT: The Park Family is the picture of aspirational wealth. The Kim Family, in contrast, is rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide “indispensable” luxury services while the Parks give the Kims a way out of their shabby circumstances. But this new ecosystem is fragile, and soon enough greed and class prejudice threaten to upend the Kims’ newfound comfort. Rated R.

The Monthly Movie at North Quincy Library is:

North Quincy Matinee Movie: What Happens Later

WHEN: Wednesday, May 15 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. 

WHERE: NQ Community Meeting Room, North Quincy Library, 381 Hancock St.

WHAT: Willa and Bill are ex-lovers who see each other for the first time in years when they both find themselves snowed in, in transit, at an airport overnight. Rated R.

The Monthly Movie at Adams Shore Library is:

Movie @ Adams Shore: Wonka

WHEN: Wednesday, May 16 from 2-4 p.m.

WHERE: AS Meeting Room, Adams Shore Library, 519 Sea St.

WHAT: With dreams of opening a shop in a city renowned for its chocolate, a young and poor Willy Wonka discovers that the industry is run by a cartel of greedy chocolatiers. Rated PG.
