In-Depth Look at Historic Hancock Cemetery’s Past and Present
QUINCY — Director Sara Slymon and the Thomas Crane Public Library would like to invite community members to attend an interactive presentation about Quincy’s historic Hancock Cemetery.
WHEN:
Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 7-8:30 p.m.
WHERE:
Thomas Crane Public Library, 40 Washington St.
WHAT:
Join Quincy’s Director of Historic and Heritage Resources Bob Damon for a 90-minute interactive presentation of Quincy’s Hancock Cemetery. During the event, Damon will lead attendees through a journey of the cemetery’s past and present — from death’s head masks to climate resilience.
This event is free to attend and no registration is required.
With over 930 burial markers and 85 tombs, Hancock Cemetery is considered one of New England’s finest burial grounds. The quality, variety and condition of the cemetery’s slate and granite monuments make it both a remarkable collection of memorial design and craftsmanship and an invaluable cultural and historic archive of the first 200 years of European settlement in Quincy.
This program is presented in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources Environmental Treasures walking tours of the cemetery.
Community members are invited to register for upcoming walking tours, presented by the Department of Natural Resources Environmental Treasures on Friday, Oct. 27 at 11 a.m. and Saturday, Oct. 28 at 10 a.m. Registration is required for these tours by emailing sowen@quincyma.gov. Attendees are asked to indicate which tour they would like to attend and the number of people in their party.
