QUINCY — Director Sara Slymon and the Thomas Crane Public Library are pleased to invite community members to a weekend of musical performances later this month.

First, on Saturday, Oct. 21 at 11 AM, the library will host the Boston Choral Ensemble for a 30-minute, family-friendly program that will feature joyful music from diverse global cultures from around the world that have become part of the fabric and community of Greater Boston. The performance will include “Kalinda,” performed in Haitian Creole; “Balelaikka,” a Tamil tongue-twister from India; “Salseo,” a Venezuelan song with a salsa beat; and the stirring “Song for the People” by Melissa Dunphy. Led by their Artistic Director, Katherine Chan, the Boston Choral Ensemble returns to a full season of sharing innovative and engaging musical experiences for audiences in beloved community gathering spaces throughout Boston.

Then, on Sunday, Oct. 22, at 3 PM, Concerts at the Crane returns with a performance by Boston’s dynamic Celtic music ensemble Fellswater. Fellswater is known for its wide-ranging music from traditional to modern compositions, drawing from the music of Scotland, Ireland, Galicia, Canada and beyond.

Fellswater has delighted audiences at the New Hampshire Highland Games, Blackstone River Theatre, Boston Celtic Music Fest, The Burren Backroom Series, Club Passim and Colonial Williamsburg. The band was featured at the 2015 Royal Nova Scotia International Tattoo, and performed in the world-renowned Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo. The group also gave two concerts in the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in August 2018. This performance is made possible by the generous support of the Friends of the Thomas Crane Public Library. Those who would like to watch the Fellswater performance from the comfort of home may do so via a live stream on the Thomas Crane Public Library’s YouTube channel. The performance will also be recorded and aired on a later date by QATV. Concerts at the Crane are generously sponsored by the Friends of the Thomas Crane Public Library.

Both events will take place in the library’s historic Richardson Building at the Main Library, 40 Washington St., Quincy.

The Richardson building seats a maximum of 100 guests, so those who would like to attend either event are encouraged to plan to arrive early. Doors for the Fellswater performance will open 15 minutes before the start time.

On Sundays, if the Library parking lot is full, there is overflow parking available in front of the Coddington Building, across the street from the Library on Coddington Street.

Both events are free of charge, and no advanced registration is required.
