QUINCY — Members of the Thomas Crane Public Library are inviting community members to become volunteer literacy tutors to help adults learn how to read at the upcoming Literacy Volunteer Information Session.

The event will take place on Thursday, Jan. 4, from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. The session will be held online and those interested can register here.

Literacy tutors are dedicated, patient, flexible, and encouraging volunteers who create a positive learning environment where adults can thrive and learn without embarrassment.

Literacy Volunteers receive extensive training and support from the Library’s Adult Literacy department and the Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts.

No previous teaching or tutoring experience is required.

English Talk Time: New Student Registration

‘English Talk Time’ is the Thomas Crane Public Library’s English for speakers of other languages (ESOL) program available for adults.

Students interested in enrolling in the ‘English Talk Time’ program’s conversation and citizenship classes can register on Tuesday, Jan. 9, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. and Thursday, Jan. 11, from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. in the Literacy Office located on the top floor of the Main Library, 40 Washington Street.

The ‘English Talk Time’ program offers conversation and citizenship classes for adults to learn and improve their English language, while meeting new people and connecting within their communities. Citizenship classes help participants feel prepared and confident for their naturalization interview. Winter classes will be held in-person and online.
