QUINCY — Director Sara Slymon and the Thomas Crane Public Library would like to invite community members to virtually attend Japanese Aesthetics: Exploring Japan’s Artistic Sensibilities with Docent Mary Mead, next month.

WHEN:

Sunday, Nov. 12, from 2:30-3:30 p.m.

WHERE:

Online via Zoom. To register, click here

WHAT:

Community members are invited to join Thomas Crane Public Library staff to learn about the arts of Asia from experts at the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco.

This event is part of an ongoing monthly series. Each month, community members are welcome to learn about a unique topic from the vast, diverse, and ever-evolving continent of Asia.

Come explore the variety, complexity and beauty of Japanese art. For the people of Japan, the functionality of an object was not enough; it also had to be aesthetically pleasing and display the skill of the artisan, the taste of the patron, and the values of the culture. Mead will discuss objects such as the kimono, netsuke, swords, lacquerware, screens, and scrolls.
