QUINCY — The staff of the Thomas Crane Public Library is proud to present How Does the Forest Tell a Story? Discover the Blue Hills Reservation event later this month.

WHEN:

Tuesday, Jan. 23 from 7 – 8 p.m.

WHERE:

Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

WHAT:

Join members of the Thomas Crane Public Library and Executive Director of the Mary May Binney Arboretum Debbie Merriam to explore the detailed history of the Blue Hills forests.

Through the years, Blue Hills Reservation has experienced many droughts, floods, and forest fires. All of these natural phenomena impact plants and how they grow.

During the event, attendees will learn about native and non-native plants and how they individually impact the greater ecosystem.

This event is free to attend and no registration is required. Community members of all ages are welcome.

Located only minutes from the bustle of downtown Boston, the Department of Conservation and Recreation Blue Hills Reservation stretches over 7,000 acres from Quincy to Dedham, Milton to Randolph, providing a green oasis in an urban environment. Rising above the horizon, Great Blue Hill reaches a height of 635 feet, the highest of the 22 hills in the Blue Hills chain. From the rocky summit, visitors can see over the entire metropolitan area. With its scenic views, varied terrain and 125 miles of trails, the Blue Hills Reservation offers year-round enjoyment for the outdoor enthusiast.

This program is co-hosted by the Friends of the Blue Hills. The Friends of the Blue Hills (FBH) is a 1,000-member non-profit organization devoted to preserving and protecting the Blue Hills Reservation’s natural beauty, diverse natural habitats and many recreational opportunities.
