QUINCY — The staff of the Thomas Crane Public Library is proud to invite community members to the many educational and entertaining in-person events that will be hosted during the month of April.

What’s the Astrolo-Tea?

  • Tuesday, April 2 from 7-8 p.m. 
  • Community Meeting Room in the Main Library, 40 Washington St. 

Join astrologer and reference librarian Rosie for a fun and informational astrology event. Tea and light snacks will be provided during a discussion about the 12 signs, birth charts and how to read them, and more.

Solar Eclipse Viewing on the Lawn!

  • Monday, April 8 from 2-4 p.m. 
  • Front Lawn, Main Library, 40 Washington St. 

The staff of the Thomas Crane Public Library invites community members to join them on the lawn to watch the total solar eclipse. This will be an outdoor viewing event requiring eclipse glasses. Some glasses will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. 

For an indoor option, participants are invited to watch the solar eclipse on a livestream inside the community meeting room in the main library. 

Eclipse Movie Night: Twilight – Eclipse

  • Monday, April 8 from 6-8 p.m. 
  • Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

To celebrate the total solar eclipse, community members are invited to a screening of the third installment in the Twilight saga, “Eclipse.” The movie is rated PG-13 with a runtime of 124 minutes.

Stop Buying Bins: Simplify Your Space With Author Bonnie Tomlinson

  • Thursday, April 11 from 7-8:30 p.m.
  • Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

Home organization author Bonnie Tomlinson will discuss her book, “Stop Buying Bins & Other Blunt But Practical Advice from a Home Organizer,” and cover essential spring cleaning tips about downsizing, creating an organization system and more.

Massachusetts: The Library State With Alan Earls

  • Saturday, April 13 from 2-3 p.m.

Join local author and historian Alan Earls for a presentation that explores Massachusetts’ library legacy in honor of National Library Week. Earls is a Boston-area author, with his most recent publication being his co-authored book “Boston Made: From Revolution to Robotics, Innovations that Changed the World.”

Preserving Nature’s Legacy: A Tribute to Charles Eliot with DCR Ranger Dan Byrnes

Join Friends of the Blue Hills Ranger Dan Byrnes for a discussion about landscape architect Charles Eliot, who advocated for the creation of the Blue Hills Reservation and worked as the landscape architect for the Metropolitan Park Commission. 

Earth Day Movie Night: The Biggest Little Farm

  • Monday, April 22 from 6-8 p.m.

To celebrate Earth Day, community members are invited to a screening of the documentary “The Biggest Little Farm.” In this film, Director John Chester, his wife Molly and their dog Todd attempt to transform 200 acres of land outside Los Angeles into a sustainable farm. The documentary is rated PG and has a runtime of 91 minutes. 

National Poetry Month: Make a Blackout Poem!

  • Wednesday, April 24 from 7-8 p.m.
  • Classroom, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

Celebrate National Poetry Month by making a blackout poem. Also known as erasure poetry, blackout poetry is a form of poetry where the writer takes an already existing piece of text and obscures a large portion of it to create a wholly new work. Join librarians Sydney and Rosie to create your own blackout poem.

Retirement Planning & Understanding Social Security

  • Thursday, April 25 from 7-8 p.m.
  • Community Meeting Room, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

Hellen Chan of the National Association of Registered Social Security Analysts will lead a seminar to explain and provide tips on what to consider when getting social security. Hellen will help participants find the optimal claiming decision to ensure they receive every dollar they have earned and are entitled to. 

Bimonthly Banned Book Club at Wollaston Public Library: “Maus”

Join the Banned Book Club this month at the Wollaston Public Library to discuss a frequently challenged or banned book.

For April, members will read and discuss “Maus V.1” by Art Speigelman. 

Copies of the book will be available at the Wollaston Library starting on March 4.

Rush Hour Reading Group: Curbing Traffic

  • Tuesday, April 30 from 7-8:30 p.m. 
  • Classroom, Main Library, 40 Washington St.

Join the Rush Hour Reading Group to read and discuss their April pick, “Curbing Traffic: The Human Case for Fewer Cars in Our Lives” by Melissa and Chris Bruntlett.

The group is partnering with Quincycles, a group of Quincy residents advocating for bicycle infrastructure within the city, for this discussion series. Participants will discuss transportation equity, multimodal access and change within the transportation system. The group will also debate how the built environment does or does not provide safety and connection.
